According to EU officials, the tariffs are a response to ongoing US trade policies that they’ve labeled as ‘unfair.’ Translation: ‘We’re sick of the nonsense, so here’s some financial pain in return.’

A US trade official responded by saying they hope for ‘continued dialogue’ — which is political speak for ‘We’re panicking, please don’t make this worse.’
